1) What are a few things you do to stay environmentally friendly?
There are a few things that I do to reduce my impact on the environment. I'm quite thoughtful when it comes to my water consumption. It's become second nature to turn off taps when I'm brushing my teeth and when washing my hair in the shower. I also only usually have a bath once a week as a luxury, to wind down..other than that I'm in the shower. I'm definitely not dawdling in there, as tempting as it is to lounge under the hot water! I'm also usually living and travelling alone, so I don't use the dishwasher unnecessarily. I find washing the dishes oddly therapeutic, so it's a win win there! I always reuse plastic bottles and carry my own bottle when possible. It might seem like a small step but If everyone followed suit, we'd vastly reduce needless water and plastic wastage! I have a reusable shopping bag that comes with me to the grocery store. It's reliable and saves me hoarding plastic bags! If a paper/plastic bag is my last resort, it always comes home with me, to be used on another occasion. I always think to recycle. It's easy to be lazy about it but making a conscious effort to be diligent takes no time at all and eventually becomes the norm. -Great tips Em! 100% agreed, if we can all reduce our plastic intake even the slightest it could help make a HUGE difference! Thanks for doing your part:)
2) Do you have any favorite sustainable or ethical clothing lines?
To be honest, it's not something I've really thoughtfully considered before now. Seeing your Instagram posts has definitely raised my awareness to the concept though! I never throw out old clothes and always either donate to a charity shop or a grateful friend. That's something I guess, baby steps. It will definitely be on my radar next time I'm shopping!
3) What are some of your favorite organic beauty products?
I love making my own body scrub. Scrubs can be expensive and It's nice to know what I'm putting on my skin! I make a lemon and honey scrub using coconut oil, sea salt (or granulated sugar if you can't get hold of sea salt!) honey and lemon juice. It's refreshing and rewarding knowing you made it yourself. I also always travel with tea tree oil and lavender oil. I find them both soothing and stress relieving. I'll add them to a bath or put a few drops onto my pillow to help me sleep. It's grounding and comforting to have those familiar scents wherever I am. Tea tree oil is great for calming my skin and helping with breakouts too. A little touch of that on a spot and it's usually almost invisible the following day! -Great suggestions!! I'm definitely going to be trying your body scrub!! Yum!
4) On a day off, you’re heading to your favorite coffee shop. What are you wearing?
It's weather dependent but most likely a pair of light wash denim jeans, a white t-shirt, black leather jacket and an ankle boot or adidas. It's nice to reach for something comfortable and effortless. Jeans and a white T is such a classic, timeless look..it's great for days off when I don't want to have to think about it too much! -Classic ODM look, love it!
5) Tell me about something you’re doing simultaneously with modeling that motivates you. Another job? A project? Volunteering? A hobby?
I have a baby project coming along. At first it was meant to accompany the degree that I'm intending to take..a website where I would document my travels, discuss and debate important topics, interview friends, uplift and inspire. A creative space with depth to it, mainly for young women. I want it to be beneficial, enriching and empowering. For now, it's primarily an outlet for myself but hopefully as it unfolds I'll be able to open it up to a wider audience and put it to good use.
6) In addition to modeling, what else may you be doing in your future, say 5 years from now?
Big question! I've applied for university for September. There's still a possibility I'll defer one more year but I'll be studying Media and sociology in London either way, alongside modeling. So that will be a huge part of the next five years for me. A career in journalism has always interested me, something where I can satisfy the creative and disciplined sides of myself. I've often thought about broadcast journalism, which would be exciting. Fashion writing and working in the industry in general obviously has it's draw because it's what I've known for the past few years. Who knows! I definitely want to travel a lot too. There's so many places I haven't seen, I'll probably be that student that uses their weekend to book a cheap flight somewhere! Possibly ambitious but I want adventure! So a loose plan, anything could happen though and I'm happy to roll with opportunities and make my own too! -I will gladly join you on any of those weekend trips;) I think education is so important and am so excited for the day I go back to school but there's nothing like traveling and seeing the world and the experiences you get from other cultures. One of my favorite things to do while traveling is going to a local coffee shop and getting some work done/writing a blog article. Perhaps your next business venture will be born from that:) Good luck!
